SlashQuit ET /quit's

The Australasian ET community has been dealt a blow as the only main tournament competitor to the GameArena Ladder has been cancelled.
SlashQuit provided a different format for ET'ers in Oceania, playing in the euro style through a group stage before double elimination. It was dealt its first blow when SQ's servers went down. Upon going back up, constant crashes on the ET servers caused the competition to be delayed. SQ admins say that ET crashes on their server boxes, whilst Quake 3 doesnt - something which is quite odd since both run off the same basic engine.
The cancellation was confirmed when the head admin and SQ ET mastermind, FrieR, advised that the comp was cancelled as even though he was willing and able to admin the tournament - without servers, there was no way to go forward.
It is unfortunate news for the ET community as there were many games lined up which saw top teams face off. The community would have been provided with the calibre of games we usually see only in GameArena finals, however over a few weeks.
The news is also disappointing for us here at MO who had a flawless run out of the group stage. Hopefully SQ will manage to rectify the issue and begin another tournament sometime in the future. |
