Day Four - 11/8/05

Huge day today ! started the day nice and early with registration taking place at around 10am. while waiting in line we were standing next to fatal1ty (OMG) and his harem. Once we got our special badges we headed inside for a look around. The BYOC looks huge but the vendor area was not as big as i thought it would be. Needless to say the next step was to score as much free stuff as humanly possible. Most of us managed to wrangle at least 5 new t-shirts, a few pens, some razer tatoos and a cool bouncy ball with a flashing blue LED that hypnotizes you to buy intel products.

While we had a few hours to kill before any games were going to start we all had a bit of a bash on the vendor PC's, most notably QUAKE 4. Quake 4 looks awesome and feels alot like quake 3. i'll prolly have more of a play tommorow.

For lunch we sent DanZai| out with Ifurita to get some chik-fil-a. good stuff. the chicken nuggets actuallly tasted like chicken. and the chips look like waffles, crazy crazy world.

By the time we had finished eating it was time to get ready for the game. while waiting an organizer came up and asked if i wanted to be in ms.quakecon... i said ok even tho i've never really played it. So while the guys got ready for their game i went and played a 6 player free-for-all to qualify for the second round on 1v1. suprisingly i didn't come last so that means i get to play tommorow . woo. Last years winner kept walking around scaring people with her presence.

As I finished my match the mo guys started theirs. pretty exciting stuff. they drew a bit of a crowd at the tourney area and over at the iTG shoutcast area. Play of the day would have to go to chuck who knifed danz while he was defusing the dynomite and then proceeded to go and run over one of his land mines. The brand0n's 5 guys were really nice, shaking hands after the game and sharing anicdotes about some of the frags in the game.

We had the choice to play Darkside that night however the guys were still reeling from the Jetlag, choosing to play at the scheduled time tomorrow.

After the game we headed out with Ifurita for some american burgers at Fuddruckers. Andrew thought he ordered a small burger but ended up with a 1lb monster.. biggest burger ever...note to andrew : anything that says "texas size" is probably not going to be small. It was the first time we've had *FULL* stomachs since landing in Dallas.

Will write more tommorow. it's been a long day and we all need super naps.

Quote of the day : “WHAT THE F**K WAS THAT !?" - angelus rage after chucks star play.

Day Three - 10/8/05

First day of gaming since we left ! We got up at crows fart due to the jet lag fairy playing dirty tricks on us. We all probably got about 6 hours sleep. After taking the free brekfast menu to town we wallowed in our greedy misery for an hour or so before catching a shuttle out to Tru Gamers LAN cafe.

The shuttle was piloted my a mentally unsound man named enrico. He actually attempted a 3 point turn on a freeway when he drove past the cafe because he was on his mobile phone. we were on the recieving end of many an angry beep.

Once there we checked the place out and took photos as seen below. the place was pretty awesome. i've never seen a lan cafe quite like it. it had 30 high end PC's as well as 10+ xboxes with 4 pool tables and a food bar. The guys got put into the "champions room" which is a curtained off area for "pro" gamers.. personally I think the curtain hides alot more than the public is lead to believe.

Soon after we got there check 6 arrived. nice guys. we all shook hands and everyone got set up.. setting up took an hour or so due to having to load et and all the configs and other stuff onto each pc.
Once the guys got started I wondered off to play some bf2 and et on the other lan PC's away from the homosexual dungon errr I mean champions room.

Later in the day united 5 rocked up and pretty much tried to muscle in on check 6... check 6 were not interested which was good news for us. at one point I was expecting an all out battle of the proish nerds. alas I was left to just imagine the outcome.. it involved lots of sobbing young men and phone calls to mother.

Seriously tho the united 5 guys all seemed cool. If we had time it would have been great for all 3 teams to have boot camped together.

From what i saw of the mo guys versus check 6 many a gg was had with the mo guys coming away from it with alot of ideas and some valuable lanning experience. Check 6 most definatly lived up to their reputation. Before we left we grabbed a group photo shown below (i'll work out the names later) .

More goss is coming tommorow with the start of quakecon ! should be a huge day with the first game being played around 5pm here or early morning over there. i'll keep you posted.

Quote of the day : “Who eats donuts after noon !?!" - american guy who was confused by the suggestion that donuts are consumed all day in australia.

Day Two - 9/8/05 (39+ hour day)

It has been a long long long day with mini adventures galore.

First of all this diary entry is a bit weird seeing as right now it's 9:15pm on tuesday nite in dallas but it's 12:15pm in Melbourne so this entry spans almost 2 days .

since I last wrote :

I got around 4 hours sleep at kens (was a bit sick and was running a fever) then we had to get up to catch a taxi to the airport. After checking in we waited around for justin (xeno). While this was going on I asked andrew if he had got out domestic american tickets from ken... he apparantly had not. frantic telephone calls followed and ken agreed to come to the airport with said tickets. The drama started when the airline started calling for us to board and ken had still not arrived.. the other boys went through with me and andrew waiting for ken.. by the time ken got to us there was a very angry man yelling our name and guilt tripping us over the PA while we were sprinting to the gate. We got on the plane to many a death stare.

After catching our breath we settled in for a 3 hour flight to auckland. Nice quick trip. When we got there we met chuck (calvin), daniel (danz) and jim (angelus). the group was finally together and more male bonding followed with me pretending to know what they were talking about. dodgy souvineers were purchased and we hopped onto the next flight.. a 12 hour crampfest to LA.

The flight was pretty bad.. only the kiwis seemed to get any sleep and that was probably due to the abuse of the free alcohol. there was many a foul odour and not enough leg room. covert mo meetings took place at the rear of the plane until they were told to shut it by an angry little wench who was trying to sleep at 9pm. In flight entertainment was alright. we had our own screens with movies and games. Adam became the "caveman" messiah while I failed to master the dodgy solitare.

After being awake for 24 hours straight (except for the kiwis) we arrived in a very hot LA. We did the fingerprint / photo thing with 20 questions and then our next little set back struck... someone had made off with danz's luggage. luckily it was checked through by whoever had it on a domestic flight which automatically got put through to dallas to a relived daniel.

The first American meals consumed were starbucks coffee and some salad rolls... no better than the aussie shite.

Our last setback of the day is that nick and justin were booked late for the domestic flights and were both put on seperate flights. We are now all at the hotel waiting for them to turn up and stealing their towels, pillow mints and minibar shares.

Hotel is awesome.. air con (hussah !), pool & spa, free brekky (with belgium waffles) good shower, free cable tv and broadband. plus we are really close to the gaylord/airport and a big mall.

A few of us just headed over to the servo (gas station) for some dinner.. so much candy, beer, smokes and anything else unhealthy - my kind of place. I made off with a sandwhich some juice and some american junior mints with andrew doing pretty much the same. Danz took this opportunity to sample 6 different krispy kreme donuts.

Hopefully tommorow i'll actually have some gaming related news due to the all day lan with check 6.

Meanwhile it's bed time after being up for around 36 hours. enjoy the photos and i'll catch u guys tommorow (if anyones reading).

Quote of the day : “Final boarding call for Claire and Andrew. The plane is ready for departure and the passengers are waiting on you“ – angry plane guy.

p.s. I can neither confirm nor deny my membership to the mile high club.

p.p.s. calvin's blog has also been updated here

Day One - 8/8/05

And away we go….. slow start today. Early morning full of packing and last minute checks. Andrew and myself got to Melbourne airport in time for the hour long, 4:45 flight to Sydney. Plane ride was not as tranquil as hoped due to some old hobo snoring loudly. Inflight magazine was sub standard.

Got to Sydney around 6 where we met adam (courageous) for the first time and we hopped a cab to ken’s (warmachine) place. Nick (schism) was not too far behind and the male bonding began with an all male pizza run. Naturally the pizza guy questioned the boys sexuality. Adam ordered a small…

After pizza was consumed more bonding followed with the arrival of Andrew (saiz). Many homosexual jokes ensued with the evening peaking with a photo of all the guys in the new mo regalia (see below)

All the guys are really cool. Seems like I’ve known them (in person) for a lot longer. although it’s still early days I’m sure there’s going to be many fun times ahead.

We are just about to hit the sack for an early nite seeing as we have to be at the airport again in the morning at 7. see yall tomorrow :-D hopefully with much more girlish insights.
